Celebrate the Little Things - and the Big Ones Too!
This week we celebrated “Adoption Day”. It represents the day we went to court and our daughter legally became ours.
I remember walking into the Court House and feeling so nervous. My whole family was there and my nephew Michael was 3 at the time. He told anyone who would listen that Anna was his little sister - and then commenced to sing songs from “Hello Dolly” in the halls of the Court House. It was adorable - and the judges loved it. I was more nervous that we were testifying that we had no other children and Michael was insisting that Anna was his baby sister. It was so cute!
After we finished our Court hearing, we went to an amazing restaurant overlooking Lake Michigan for a celebratory lunch. Having our family all together on this monumental day will be a memory I will never forget. That evening we had an even larger celebration with friends and family. Anna truly has changed my life for the better and I am thankful every day for her birth mom who chose me to be her forever mom.
That is the big celebration of the week. But everyday I reflect on my day and focus on the good things that happened. Ending the day focusing on what I am Grateful-Thankful-Blessed for reminds me of all the positives in my life. Its a time to reflect on what may not have gone exactly how I wanted it to, and how to reframe that negative thought into a positive thought. Research also says that if you go to bed thinking positive thoughts, you are more likely to wake up in a positive mood. How good is that!
Take time today to celebrate the wins in your life - whether they are big or small.
